The information provided here outlines what information needs to be included in a typical Vehicle Specification sheet.

The Vehicle Specification sheet must define what vehicles it covers and does does not cover

The Vehicle Specification sheet must have Attributes and Values to match all requirements for Category 5 Historic cars , Group N General Requirements and Group ND specific Requirements.

The examples shown below also give you some idea of what the expected values for each attribute (shown in bold text). This is not the definitive listing of values but the typical sort of value that one would expect to see on the majority of vehicles.

This is an example of a completed Vehicle Specification Sheet. This will give you some idea of what the end result should look like. In this example the vehicle came fitted with two different wheel sizes, so section 3.5 Wheels and Tyres has been duplicated

1.0 Vehicle Description

This section of the Vehicle Specification will require a more detailed Description of the Vehicle as well as an Exclusions list of other variants, body styles and engine capacities.

The Description can cover multiple variants, body styles and or engine capacities provided the details of the differences are noted in the appropriate sections of the vehicle specification , e.g. multiple engine sections.

Adjustable: refers to the associated sway bar. In most cases this will be No but could be Yes.

Suspension adjustable: In Most cases this will be Yes, Highly unlikely it will be No

Method:  Refers to the available methods for suspension adjustment, List all options such as Toe, Camber, Castor etc

Note: If the Front Suspension is not adjustable then the method should be N/A 

1.3 Rear Suspension

Adjustable: refers to the associated damper. In most cases this will be No but could be Yes.

Anti Sway Bar: This indicates if a sway bar was fitted. Typically either No, Yes or maybe even Yes Optional.

Adjustable: refers to the associated sway bar. In most cases this will be No but could be Yes.

Suspension adjustable: This will be either Yes or No.

Method:  Refers to the available methods for rear suspension adjustment, List all options such as ToeCamberCastor etc.

Note: If the Rear Suspension is not adjustable then the method should be N/A

Type: refers to the type of brakes such as Drum, Disk Solid or Disk Ventilated.

Dimensions: The outer diameter and the width/thickness of the friction rubbing surface for disk brakes or the outer diameter and the width of the friction rubbing surface for drum brakes.

Material: In most cases this will be Cast Iron but there may be other options.

No. Cylinders per wheel: On disk brakes the number of cylinders equals the number of pistons. On drum brakes 1 cylinder may have 1 or 2 pistons.

Actuation: This will be Hydraulic in all cases.

Caliper Make: Will be a brand name such as Girlock, Girling, Lockheed, ATEBrembo, AisinSumitomo or possibly Unbranded, enter N/A for drum brakes

Caliper Type: This will be usually Floating or Fixed, enter N/A for drum brakes

Material: In most cases this will be Cast Iron but other materials or material combinations may exist.

Master Cylinder Make: Will be a brand name such as Girlock or possibly Unbranded.

Type: Typically this will be Single or Tandem.

Adjustable Bias: This refers to a manual adjustment and will be either No or Yes. It does not include automated brake pressure limiting systems incorporated into the master cylinder or back axle.

Servo Fitted: This refers to the brake booster and in most cases this will be Yes but could be No.

No. Cylinders / Rotors: The number as per the manufactures specifications, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 ,12 etc

Configuration: Typically this will be either Inline or V .

Cylinder Block Material: Usually either Cast Iron, Alloy or Cast iron & Alloy.

Two/Four Stroke: Either Two or Four.

Bode: This is the standard Bore typically in mm or inches. Enter N/A for Rotary Engines.

Stroke: This is the standard Stroke typically in mm or inches. Enter N/A for Rotary Engines.

Capacity: This is the standard capacity in cc.

Identifying Mark: Location of the engine identifying mark that carries the Type as specified above

Cooling Method: Typically this will be either Liquid or Air.

No. of Ports Total: The total number plus the number of individual inlet and Exhaust ports. This also applies to rotary engines.

No, of Camshafts: The total number of camshafts or N/A for rotary engines.

Location: Of the camshaft which is typically either Head or Block or N/A for rotary engines.

Drive: How the camshaft is driven, typically either Chain, Belt or N/A for rotary engines.

Valve Actuation: Typically this is either Rocker, Direct actuation or N/A for rotary engines.

Part Plugs / Cylinder or Rotor: In most cases this will be one but some Japanese cars and Rotary engines will have two.
