Vehicle Specifications

A key element of most Historic Racing classes are Vehicle Specifications. The Group ND Racing proposal will bring new elements into the existing Vehicle Specification sheets

  • Add a Vehicle Definition – What exact vehicle does this VS cover
  • Add a Vehicle Exclusions List – What other variants are not covered
  • Ensure Vehicle Specifications has all the Attributes and Values to match the Nd Requirements
  • Consider the Introduce a QMS based document control system
  • Develop an Instruction for writing a Vehicle Specifications
  • Define the various Attributes and Value options used in a Vehicle Specifications
  • Define what can / can't be used as reference material to complete a Vehicle Specifications
  • Envisaged a competitor will prepare the Vehicle Specifications and provide the evidence to support the Vehicle Specifications

The Vehicle Specifications plus the ND Specific Requirements becomes the basis of a logbook examination.

Sourcing a Vehicle Specification

Option 1: (best option) 

You may be lucky enough to find the exact Vehicle Specification document for your vehicle on the Motorsport Australia website. see link below

In this case you can use this document to eventually get your car log booked.

Option 2: 

You may find a Vehicle Specification document for your vehicle on the Motorsport Australia website that's for a different variant of your car.
e.g. different engine capacity.

In This case you should be able to get the Vehicle Specification updated to include your car.

Group ND Racing can help you with this, but you will still need to provide the relevant information from one of the Information Sources.

Option 3: 

No Vehicle Specification document exists for your vehicle.

The first thing you should do is contact Group ND Racing. There may be a Vehicle Specification for your vehicle being submitted. Hold tight and Option 1 may become your option.

If There is no draft Vehicle Specification underway then we will advise you how to proceed. 

  • Download a blank Vehicle Specification document from the Group ND Racing website.
  • Gather ALL the relevant information form the acceptable Information sources
  • Send the completed Vehicle Specification document along with copies of all the sources of information as a body of evidence
  • Group ND Racing will work to get your new Vehicle Specification document accepted by Motorsport Australia.

Note: If we are aware of 2 or more people trying to get a Vehicle Specification for a given vehicle, we will put you all in contact with each other or negotiation will all parties to get the Vehicle Specification Document completed.

Vehicle Specifications Information Sources

Information to assemble a Vehicle Specification can be sourced form the following documents which are listed in priority order.

  • FIA Homologation Papers for the specific model, Where they exist
  • CAMS Specification Documents from the period.
  • Manufactures repair or training manuals as issued by the manufacturer (Not a Haynes Manual) ♦
  • Manufacturers spare parts catalogues 
  • Manufacturers sales or advertising brochures including the owners manual 
  • Period road tests or magazine article by reputable journals

Note: ♦ these items can often be found on the internet without too much effort.
